Brain examination (brain checkup)

The Association provides a subsidy for a portion of the cost when an insured person undergoes a brain examination (brain checkup).
We encourage you to take advantage of this program if you experience symptoms like persistent headaches.

Eligible persons

Insured persons aged 50-70 (examination administered once every five years)

Eligibility for examination

Insured persons who have been covered by health insurance for at least six months

Examining institutions

Available as an optional examination item in a complete check-up or as a separate examination at another medical care institution

The subsidy

One-half of the examination cost (not to exceed 20,000 yen)

How to get examined

  1. STEP1The individual to be examined should make an appointment for an examination directly with the preferred medical care institution. (Make an appointment in time to submit the application no later than two weeks before the examination date.)
  2. STEP2Obtain a Brain Examination (Brain Checkup) Application/Subsidy Application Form from your employer’s HR section. Fill out the necessary information and send the form to the Health Insurance Association via your employer’s HR section. Make sure the form arrives no later than two weeks before the examination date.
    *You must apply in advance to receive the subsidy. (If you apply after the examination, you will be responsible for the full cost of the examination.)
  3. STEP3After reviewing the Brain Examination (Brain Checkup) Application/Subsidy Application Form, the Association will send the form to your employer’s HR section with an approval number. Keep the returned form in a safe place.
  4. STEP4Pay the full cost at the time of the examination. Later, submit the Brain Examination (Brain Checkup) Application/Subsidy Application Form you received earlier to your employer’s HR section with the original receipt attached.
  5. STEP5The Health Insurance Association will remit payment of the subsidy into the bank account in which the insured person receives salary payments via the employer’s HR section.
